What it is: Sandusky High School’s band program is celebrating its 100 years the best way it knows how: with music.
To commemorate the event, Sandusky City Schools has contracted with renowned band composer William Owens to compose two works to celebrate the milestone.
The band has already premiered and added Owens’ “The Sandusky Fanfare” to its pre-game show, and the band will premiere a concert band piece at its spring band concert on May 3.
Why you should contribute: In order to pay for the project, the Sandusky Band Parents have created a
GoFundMe with a goal to raise $5,000.

Why it’s important: “Getting to premiere a brand new piece in celebration of the 100th year of the Sandusky Band is important because it marks a milestone,” says Band President and SHS Senior Lauren Weimer. “We have made it to 100 years! The Sandusky Band has changed a lot over the years, especially with the pandemic, and has fluctuated in numbers. As a student, this piece is something we’ve worked up to, and keeps us engaged in the band program. This is such a unique opportunity that I can guarantee everyone involved in the band is looking forward to.”
