What is it: The 14th Annual Ice A Fair will take place from 11-7 p.m. Feb. 4 in downtown Vermilion.
What is involved:- Ice sculptures: Fair-goers can view ice sculptures along the streets of downtown Vermilion. “The ice carving demos are a highlight of the day for sure,” says Event Chair and Main Street Treasurer Fred Miggins via a press release.
- Neighborhood trolley: Participants can also hop on the neighborhood trolley to enjoy a narrated tour of the historic Harbourtown neighborhood and downtown. Each tour meets at the center of downtown and leaves on the hour.
- Frozen Play Space: Kids can enjoy an ice slide and football toss, and also pose for a photo with the frozen polar bear.
- Fire & Ice display: At 6 p.m., watch a 30-minute display of an ice-carved chimney with a roaring fire set to music and featuring fire dancers. Will the fire melt the ice, or will the ice extinguish the fire?
- Live demonstrations: Ice carvers will host live demonstrations during the festival.
- Melt Down Party: Doors open at 7 p.m. at the Vermilion Boat Club, 5416 Liberty Ave. The menu includes butternut squash soup, pulled pork sliders, a mac and cheese bar, salad and desserts. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event. As of Jan. 29, this year's event is sold out.
