Lake Erie Arms firing up for a summer opening

What’s Going On? Lake Erie Arms is building a world-class gun club with country club amenities, including sauna and steam rooms, a public café, members' vault room, shooting leagues, a VIP restaurant, two stories of VIP lounges, a cigar room, a virtual simulator and VIP outdoor patios.

“The new facility is a shooting sports club,” says co-owner Jim West. “What boats are to yacht clubs and golf is to country clubs, we are to shooting sports. We have a lot of the same amenities such as men’s and women’s locker room facilities, steam rooms and showers. We have meeting rooms, media rooms, and event rooms.”

Investors and their families attend the groundbreaking ceremony in March 2022.Where is it located and why is it important? The facility will be located on the east side of Route 250 just south of Kalahari. This latest addition to the North Coast will draw people to the area, providing some infrastructure to the Route 250 corridor and will allow for more business development on Route 250.

“We will need to hire another 100 people in the next 180 days,” West says. “We look forward to being a good neighbor and help the county continue to grow the tourism in the area.”

How did this all get started? It began in 2015 when Jim West and his brother-in-law, Brent McConnell, started teaching CCW and moved into retail firearms at their current Cleveland Road location. As the original business began to grow, a banker suggested they should open an indoor range.

We then started researching and visiting ranges all over the country,” West says. “We used our contacts in the firearms business to set up meetings with current range owners asking them what they did right, wrong and what they would do differently. We then used that information to design our facility."

The beginning stages of the Lake Erie Arms construction project. When will it be open: It’s currently under construction, which began in April 2022 and plan to open this summer.

“LEA will be the most state-of-the-art shooting facility in the world the day we open the doors,” West says. “We will be offering a variety of training and ranges across all disciplines as well as leagues, social events, food and beverages.”

How can you get involved? “We max out at about 1250 members,” West says. “We have been selling memberships since late summer. We are approaching half of that goal.”
What’s next? “As we approach our membership goal, we do have plans to move forward with an expansion of our 25 yard ranges and our membership lounge area,” West says.
